1 Way Separating Jacket Zipper
#8 Black Tape with Antique Nickel "Teeth"
This is a really interesting zipper using antique techniques for making a zipper. The machine for making these comes out of the industrial age (1880's) where manufacturers were fascinated with little tiny pieces that could be mass produced. Notice that there are little sections of metal that have hooks, that fit into a slot on the other side of the zipper.
They do not run as easily as more modern zippers but the look is absolutely amazing on a leather jacket. They also get better with use.
To shorten this zipper I use an ice pick (very carefully!) to pry off the top stops. Then mark the zipper for length & pry off the "teeth" that you don't need. Using a needle nose plier, clamp the top stops back on the tape. Then cut the tape off about 1-2" longer than the zipper. Tuck the extra tape under then sew in to your garment.
